May 30 - Japan, the maker of milk, horse radish and even Pharaoh's beer, promises a new brew that is out of this world: Space Beer.
The new beer from Sapporo will use grain made from barley grown in the Russian unit of the International Space Station, in a beverage landing later this year.
Dan Sloan reports.

I think it's a kind of marketing strategy of beer companies. Anyway, it is very creative. I can't help respecting the director.
I couldn't agree with you more, Jeheon. It is definitely a marketing strategy, and a very creative one.
Did you hear the part of the video that beermakers in Japan have been struggling to maintain competition with new kinds of beverages? What about in your country? Is beer a very strong performer, or is it losing market share to other kinds of alcohol?
Interested in hearing your thoughts and opinions.
Best wishes,

I don't drink, but as serving in the army, even though I don't the taste of beer, I was thirsty enough to drink some and of course desperately desire to eat Choco-pie and Coke. I don't know why. Maybe the image after drinking imprinted my mind through the media ads.
One of Japanese beer companies gave it shot for the future life in space. No matter time it takes place, human beings will live outside the Earth. And living in the space will exactly the same as living on the Earth, so that there will be alcohol around us. Nobody denies this fact that it has been with hunman beings after the civilization had began. Drinking in the space?
I am not excited about drinking in the space but others will be intrigued in it including Jason.^^
I think it's definitely a market stragegy. And it also reflect the business of beer in Japn market is very full of competition. The beermakers try to use special advertisement to attract people to drink beer.
Yes, well, I quite like beer (it's a big part of Australia's national culture!), but hardly drink at all these days. I found that I had no desire to go out and drink once my son was born. I mostly just have a quiet drink or two for special social occasions.
Space beer. Mostly marketing hype at this point, but I do wonder what beer fully produced in space would taste like...

Now I am travelling at Belgium. Belgium is famous of its varieties of Beers. Can you imagine there are more than 280 kinds of beers produced in such a small county with 10.5 millon population? More interesting thing is each kind of beer has a unique cup to match with. I never heard Beer is popular in Japan. But I have to admit Japanese is good at creation.

I've been to Belgium, too, and I have to agree that the beer culture there is really unique. I remember going to a bar where a beer menu is handed to customers the same way a wine menu is given to people in restaurants. And you're right, the unique glass made for each variety of beer is amazing.
Another thing I remember about Belgian beer is how strong it was (in alcohol content). Some of them are like 7, 8, 9% or more. I got quite happily drunk while I was there, but I remember I didn't get any nasty hangover the next day. I think that has a lot to do with the high quality and traditional method of production.
