Directions:

In this part of the test, you will write ONE sentence that is based on a picture. With each picture, you will be given TWO words or phrases that you must use in your sentence. You can change the forms of the words and you can use the words in any order.

Your sentence will be scored on:

- the appropriate use of grammar, and
- the relevance of the sentence to the picture.

Question 1:

airport terminal   /   front

Try writing your sentence for this picture by replying below. Make sure it is a single sentence and uses both words/phrases ("airport terminal" and "front").

The parking lot full of different cars is in front of the airport terminal.

Hi Sunghan,

This sentence feels a little too dense for easy reading. I'd like to suggest:

The parking lot -- full of different cars -- is in front of the airport terminal.

OR

The parking lot in front of the airport terminal is full of different cars.

Otherwise, great. The good thing here is that you have tried to create a complex and descriptive sentence. On the actual TOEIC test (writing section) this can be a good way to ensure maximum points, so long as your grammar is spot on.

Thanks for contributing,

~ Jason

In a clear morning, many cars and buses are in front of the gray airport terminal that is in the large ground which there is no mountain near the airport.

Hi Dongwan,

Be careful not to try and put too much into your sentence, or it will get very clustered and confusing. Try to keep things in one clear, manageable and coherent sentence. Your sentence has too many inserted clauses, making it rather confusing.

A better version of this sentence may be:

It is a clear morning and there are many cars and buses in front of the gray airport terminal.

Hope the advice helps,

~ Jason

This place is airport and it's parking lot. Two story building airport is placed on the left side of a picture and in the right side, hundreds of cars are parked in the parking lot. Also, many cars have stopped in front of airport. Beautiful cloud is scatterd on the blue sky.

It seems to be airport terminal, a front of that building there is a huge parking lot where also clowded with many cars.

Thank you for your correction.
While making the sentence, it seemed a bit awkward to me.
Excellent to give me a better understanding!^^

Too much information and too many clauses in one sentence! It makes your sentence hard to understand in addition to having incorrect grammar.

This might be a better alternative for your sentence:

In front of my house, there is an airport terminal where my personal aircraft is usually parked.

However, I don't recommend you use a sentence like this if you ever take the real TOEIC writing exam. It's too imaginary, and involves too much information that can't be directly seen or inferred from the picture. Stick to the basics!

Best wishes,

~ Jason

Two major problems here:

1) It is not really possible from looking at the picture to know/state that the airport is crowded.

2) You have not used specific terms required as per the task instructions - you've left out the words "terminal" and "front"!

Best,

~ Jason

Heewon,

A couple of important details you missed from the task instructions:

"In this part of the test, you will write ONE sentence that is based on a picture"

"Make sure it is a single sentence..."

Better luck next time!

Good effort, Taesub.

Be careful not to try and crowd too many descriptive clauses into the one sentence. Use "and" if you want to extend your description. For example:

It seems to be an airport terminal, and in front of that building there is a huge parking lot where also crowded with many cars.

Thanks for your effort,

~ Jason

Hi Chul,

Your sentence would be perfect with the inclusion of articles in the right places:

In front of the airport terminal, there is a crowded parking lot.

Best of luck,

Perfect response, Hakjae - nicely done. It's good that you concentrated on a simple statement for the picture that used the given words correctly.

It is crowded front of an airport terminal.

-breewofdew

This use of "front" is not clear, and potentially ungrammatical.

Perhaps you mean:

It is crowded in front of the airport terminal.

Only problem there is, from the picture, it's not entirely clear that it is crowded in front of the terminal.

Best,

~ Jason
