TOEFL iBT Writing Scores - Rubrics and Descriptors for Assessment...

TOEFL iBT writing scores are based on a 0 ~ 5.0 point scale (as opposed to a 0 ~ 4.0 scale for speaking tasks). You may be wondering how these scores are determined. Well, you've come to the right place to find out!  


The specific requirements for the two different tasks (integrated writing task or independent writing task) are explained in the links provided below:

Hi Hager,

So you have about a month before you take the exam. If you don't mind my asking, what is your study/preparation plan leading up to the test?

Just curious. You sound like a nice and polite person - and I always welcome having those sorts of students in this forum!

Thank you very much ,my teacher. I am a university student. I've studied boimedical engineering for two years but I resently cut my study and applied for Canadian universities. I am really glade that you think so :D. In fact, I'm so impressed by your efforts in this forum. Unbelievable !!!

sadHi everybody, i'm taking TOEFL in February 21 and I need 82 for my studies. I don't know if  I will be able to pass it.

Hi Abbis.
You have to be possitive and believe in yourself and in your efforts.
If you are practicing very hard you should be conficent enough to believe that you did as much as you could.
My advice is to continue practicing all the material that you can find in this website.
Jason has posted a lot of examples and has writen advice how to face each of the questions.

Hi Toffylady,
 
Using idiomatic language in your responses can be tricky. It's very important you know exactly how to use the idioms and for the precise purposes, and not go overboard (use too many) with them. I often meet or teach Korean students who have been taught to think using idioms makes them sound cool and more like a native speaker - and they completely overdo them and end up sounding either strange or contrived. Too many idioms in your response can make you sound "corny" to a native speaker.
 
So yes - by all means go ahead and use them, but within limits, and they should help to add to your score, if you use them appropriately and for good effect.
