I think this song's introduction...Is it right to express the part before the lyrics?: maybe overture? Anyway, we can hear the introduction melody frequently in other songs... maybe many composers use this song as a sampling. I love this melody too.
However, I can't understand this song lyric..The card game? Yunhee..can you understand some sentences linking the kind of card to man's mind?
It's hard to understand for me.
Anyway, it's little gloomy. Oh, don't be disappointed! I like gloomy songs, I often listen some of them when I am in blue. It's helpful to take away my feeling.

Anyway, I really like this song!!! The first time when I heard this song was in my middle school days because this song was my brother’s ringtone. At that time, I couldn’t understand the meaning of this song but I sometimes hummed this song. I read the lyrics just before. Hmm… It has quite hard to understand. I think, 'shape of the heart' maybe can be one of the shape of the cards. Like above lyrics about the cards, cards have many faces. But the shape of one's heart is not the same as those kinds of shapes. I mean, those shapes never mean the one's real heart. (I can't understand even what I mean to do..lol)

Anyway,,, it is really difficult to understand... really hard. Isn't it?

Yes, it is very difficult to understand. The true meaning of words are hidden in this song. I think that you are right by saying that different cards have many faces. Then I think Sting compares his shape here with the set of cards,
he sings: he does not support war as he sings that the spades are the swords of a soldier and the clubs are weapons of war. He does not need any money as he sings that diamonds mean money for this art. That is not the shape of my heart. It is not the shape of his heart, because he has other values.
