Hey

First of all, let me tell you that TOEFL is not a very difficult task to accomplish. There really are no magical tricks, everything depends on you efforts and your preparation. Here's the most important tip: DO NOT PANIC! It's not like your whole life depends on it. If you don't get good in TOEFL, you can always retake it. In this forum, you will find a variety of speaking and writing topics which can be very helpful in your preparation for TOEFL exam. Just keep on practicing these topics for the next 10 days and trust me, your results will be fruitful.

Best wishes

 Hello sonutulsiani

Thank you so much for these tips.

I need some help in reading section.  I am practicing reading section these days and I am not able to get more than 20 correct out of 30. I think my main problem is timing and the last questions (summary one). Will you please guide me how to deal with the last questions of reading section?? Many times I cannot finish this last question or I do not get enough time.

Please help. I will really appreciate that. Thanks in advance.

And muxaul, you cannot take toefl within seven days of your test but you can take after seven days.

Hello

Maxaul.. You think you are not so good for succeeding in your first try? Why do you think like that? I want you to think over the number of days you have been preparaing for the TOEFL exam. I want you to think how many years you have been studying in school or college. I want you to think over the conversations you have done with people around you in english. Think about all this instead of thinking that you won't succeed, this will help you in gaining your self-confidence. That's what I did the night before my TOEFL exam. It helped me in gaining my confidence. I said to myself, "I have been reading, writing, listening, speaking english almost my entire life, I am not a native speaker and my english is not that great too but with whatever I have done in english, I CAN PROVE MYSELF" So be positive and you WILL succeed.

Sofy.. What I did for the reading section was to skip the entire passage and go to the questions directly and answer accordingly, this saved my time and it did work for me. So just give it a try, try it 4 or 5 times and if you are comfortable with it. adopt this strategy in the exam. This was the time part. Now to get the last questions correct, the only way you can do that is finish off quickly the first 10 questions, which according to me are really simple (just direct answer from passage). Or you could do the last questions first and then go for the initial questions. Here's the way I did: 13 or 14 minutes for the first 10 questions, 6 minutes for the last 3 questions (3 minutes for the last summary one). Always save atleast 3 minutes for the last question.

Regards

Hi Sofy.  I got 27 and 29 in reading  when I took the test. What I do is to skim the passage. I have never read the whole passage. First I got afraid to do it because I thought I would lose important information.
Usually, the first sentence of each paragraph establishes the topic. The last sentence of each paragraph often give you  a kind of conclusion or important information or the thesis if the paragraph is the introduction. The rest of the paragraph  presents details, so I do not pay too much attention to them at first.
After that, I click continue or next ( I do not remember) and I begin to answer directly the questions. I go very fast with the questions that have vocabulary and then when the questions are about paragraph I read more carefully this paragraph trying to find where is the information I need.
When I get the last question that it is more complicated, I have approximatly between 3 or 5 minutes left. So I have more time to pay attention about that question, so I skim again the passage looking for the main points if I need.
They are distracters:
Do not chose answers that have ideas about minor points in the passage.
Of course, there are always answers that have ideas not mentioned in the passage.
Do not use answer that have words taken from the passage but are not related to the main points.
Some books recommend to take notes from the passage about the main topics, so then, it will be easy to answer tha last two questions.I have never tryed that, but it could work.
Hope this helps.
Take care.

It's okay. Don't worry, you will feel the real TOEFL exam much more easier if you keep on practicing the 40 questions of independent speaking

http://global-english.lefora.com/2008/08/29/toefl-ibt-speaking-independent-topic-list-open-cho/page1/
http://global-english.lefora.com/2008/12/20/toefl-ibt-speaking-independent-topic-list-paired-c/page1/#post2553556

And other integrated questions in this forum.
I got both questions 1 and 2 the same which I had done in these practice questions.
Rest will be fine.

Hello toffyland,

There is a list of 185 topics.
Here is the link
http://www.ets.org/Media/Tests/TOEFL/pdf/989563wt.pdf
There are 2 questions in writing part
* integrated writing in which you have to read one passage for 3-5 minsand then listen to lectures related to the passage and after that youhave to relate the lectures with the passage. You will be given 20 minsto write.
* independent writing in which you will given 1 topic and you are supposed to write that in a time limit that is 30 minutes.
