Dear Jason ( or anyone who's willing to help)
I am an English teacher in Turkey. And new in the forum My supervisor gave me a group of 10 for TOEFL and I have only 90 hours with them. I have never taken the test personally nor did I teach TOEFL. I need your assist about esp. organizing the lessons. I mean should I divide the 90 hours to four skills.? Should I spend time on structure and grammar?and how much?which book is the best to follow? Please I appreciate you a lot..you're the only to help me.

Hello lunalady,
I like your idea...I mean...You are an English teacher and want to help your students as much as possible. I'm not a teacher, but I struggle with Toefl. I took it twice. So, I think I could have some ideas about how I see a real help from a teacher. Firstly, you have to find out some books : maybe the ETS official guide is enough, because you are a teacher. This is to see the format of the exam. Then, maybe you want to try to take the exam yourself, so you'll see how the Toefl looks like in the real conditions. Finally, you'll know better what a student may face during the real test, and the difficulty level of it.
Also, the preparation may be different for one or another student. For example, one may need...let's say 100 score (overall), and another may need only 80-90 overall, but with 26 for speaking only. So, you'll need to adapt your lessons to the needs of your students. I spoke with some students from Turkey last week on Skype. They told me that they have no problem with reading, listening and writing, but they need to improve their speaking a lot. Well...I hope you don't mind because of my opinion here, but I've heard from many other people that the bigest problem is the ability to communicate in English. This is my problem, too. My last score was: R=29, L=28, S=18, W=24. I need 26 for speaking, and only 83 overall. So...this is why I think speaking is the most difficult section on Toefl.
I'm sure Jason will give you better advice, because he has a lot of experience as a teacher. I just wanted to let you know my opinion as a learner of English. Good luck.
