Due to latest developments in information and communications technology, the world has become a small village. As a result, ecological, economic, political, cultural and social systems in the world have become interrelated and inter-dependent. Students are no longer citizens of their own country, they have become global citizens. In the light of current global changes, this study recommends that global themes be integrated in speaking instruction in EFL college classrooms. It proposes a model for integrating global themes focusing on 4 areas: (1) global systems; (2) diverse human values; (3) current global issues and problems; and (4) global history. The aim of the model is to help EFL students learn about the cultures and customs of other countries (other than English-speaking countries); global problems; the similarities and differences that the world's peoples share; international organizations; interrelatedness of human beings; stereotypes and multiple perspectives.
