Hello
any of you passed the speaking part of the toefl with a 26?
I took the exam in February for the first time and even if I had a good general score 105 I only got 24 in the speaking and I need a 26. So, I'm gonna retake the exam in a week.
I read Jason's advice and they' re very useful but I would like to know from some people that passed the speaking with a 26 or more how did they answer the questions and if they have some tips to share?
Thanks
Giovanni

In terms of reaching the magic 26 score in speaking, it does of course depend on individual test-takers and their particular strengths and weaknesses.

However, you might like to bear these things in mind:

- I haven't seen anyone get 26 without managing to be fluent and organized for the independent questions (1 and 2). You need to be getting minimum 3 (out of 4) for these two questions.

- Questions 3 and 5 (campus conversation oriented) are easy to score well on once you get the formula right. You should be getting minimum 3 out of 4 for each of these questions as well if you're hoping for 26 overall.

- Questions 4 and 6 are possibly the hardest to score high on. However, if you've done well in questions 1, 2, 3 and 5, you can afford to lose some points for these (questions 4 and 6 ~ particularly question 4, which I think is the hardest on the whole test). If you can manage 2.5~3.0 for each of these questions, you can still get 26 overall.

Having checked hundreds and hundreds of speaking submissions for TOEFL, I can tell you that the people who get stuck on 23-24 usually have a problem in one (or both) of two areas:

- Pronunciation/delivery (problems here can reduce scores overall on all questions no matter how much you have practiced and prepared for them);

- Organization/topic development (people get stuck on using the wrong format for some questions, and no matter how fluent they are, they don't cover the right information in the right way).

Some things there for you all to think about, I hope.

Best wishes,

~ Jason

Hi
unfortunately in the last toefl exam I ve got a worse score in the speaking part, worse than the first time when I had a 24. This time I got a 23 :-(
I have to retake the exam for the third time it ' s really annoying.

Well, sad to hear that this time your score was worse than before.
Just a tip: Keep practicing these questions here in the forum, check for the answers that have been given a higher rating, listen to them again and again and make notes of it, then think about different words with which you can frame the same answer. Then speak to yourself and record either in mobile or the chinswing or a voice recoder or anywhere you find. Check your clarity in it. It is obvious you won't have a perfect answer in the beginning, but don't give up. Practice makes a man perfect. There is no reason that you won't be perfect in it. Just give yourself some time for preparing and then write the exam when you are really confident.

All the best.

Hi, manc79
As sonutolusiani said, practice more everyday. I am in the same boat, I already took the exam 8 times. At the first trials I got 20, now three tests with 24. I will not give up until I get this score.
Following Jason's tips is very important and helpful, however in the exam be calm is also very important. Everytime I take the exam I feel very nervous, and I can't talk, I think even in my mother tongue language it would be the same.
Let us hope and try our best.
Good lick for everyone.

I took the exam 3 times and I didn't get the desired 26 but I am thinking to take the toeic. If I had to take the toefl again, I would try to pass it first in Jason's ttutorials and then retry the exam because if I am not prepared I am going to waste my money retaking the exam.

I believe this area in toefl ibt is the hardest to reach the passing score too because of it's time pressure and very stressful the moment you start to speak. I would like to seek for advice on how to manage time between 45-60 seconds in delivering accurate answer confidently. My previous score in speaking was 21 and 22 respectively. I hope that on my next attempt I will reach at least the passing score 26. I'll be taking the exam next month. Hope you can guide me jason.

Hi, venus
Jason's tips in the speaking mentor are very important to follow and apply in the real test. We have to practice as much as we can.
Good luck.

Hi everyone,
I am struggling for a long time to achive a 26 in Speaking section and no success. My scores were always 22-23 and I live in US. Recently, I have learned from a friend, who got 26 in Speaking, about Jason's Speaking Mentor Program and I have subscribed immediately. For a while I have just listened to Jason's tips and tricks and I just realized that the strategies I used before for Q4 were wrong. I think Jason's tips are very good. All I need is practice, practice and practice. I hope that these new strategies will boost my speaking score to 26.
