I am a coordinator of a school in Bs As and I find that many of our teachers fail to succeed because they lack the knowledge and sometimes will to plan a successful lesson. They feel that teaching is just asking children to repeat a couple of examples and then copy in their copybooks!
It´s really hard to make some of them understand that teaching is not improvising and that you have to plan ahead and enjoy doing so for the activities to be profitable once in the classroom.
I have recently started to assign them "homework" so that they can become "literate" in the art of teaching and the internet has helped me a lot in this sense, I ask them to read articles on topics they need to research and then we comment on them in our staff meetings. I am currently dowloading a lot of interesting articles - methodology and grammar! from www.englishcoach.com.ar They come really handy !
