Hi there. Could you all rate and submit your corrections? My main
problem, I think, is that it's pretty long. So I have no time left for
writing a nice introduction. I counted 491 word. Would it be enough
with 400? It cannot be hard to shorten.
Also, do you think that it's preferable to make 3 body paragraphs rather than 2, as I did?
It is better for children to grow up in the countryside than in a big
city. Do you agree or disagree? Use specific reasons and examples to
develop your essay.
The issue at hand is whether it is better to grow up in the countryside rather than in a big city. Even if the country offers the safest environment, people from the city have always the chance to discover themselves better, since they have wider opportunities. So, would it be preferable for a kid to grow up in the countryside instead than in a metropolis? I cannot but strongly disagree. Personally, I believe that it is better for children to be raised in a urban setting, given that the big city offers them a broader range of activities and the possibility to be constantly interacting with people.
The first reason why I disagree with the statement is because of the variety of activities that are available in a city. Whereas the countryside is a rather limited place when it comes to amusement, a big city turns out to be the total opposite. For instance, you will rarely find a hockey, baseball or soccer field anywhere but in a big city. Cities like New York have plenty of them, and some of the recreation places are even public and costless. Although the countryside offers activities such as horseback riding and fishing, these are usually not of the kids' preference. Furthermore, when it comes to find a school where to send the children, there are many more options if you are settled in a city. Not only a bigger number of them, but also different educational approaches. From art schools to literature-oriented ones, and from the the regular public school to the expensive private institute.
In addition, a urban setting lets you interact with other people at every time. Since children are regularly excited and looking for fun, I think that the isolation of the country might make them bored. Oppositely, if they grow up in the city, there are many places where they can meet new friends to hang out every afternoon. For example, my homeland, Buenos Aires, has a lot of public parks where the neighbors' children play together. Also, even if the children are very little, they can be sent to the kindergarten or a private playground. Moreover, it is not only that they have the chance to be surrounded by people all the time, it is also that in the cities the people is more variated. Every metropolis has an heterogeneous population, unlike the country.
To conclude, we have accounted for the reasons why I disagree with the
statement above. While the countryside may provide a safer environment,
the city will prepare them better for the world, because they will have
the chance to choose from virtually every kind of activity, and,
likewise, they will never be alone or isolated from others. We should
keep in mind that cities are still unsafe, because of the cars and
everyday crime, so if we work towards the melioration of these
predicaments, children will be able to grow up safer and more confident.
