While addmitedly there are some potential benefits of watching television for its viewers including children, there is also a number of serious disadvantages. There are many programs on TV that help children in their education. They can listen to some educationl lessons they do need as a supplementary part of their understanding the materials. However, in my view, watching television precipitates some obvious negative impacts on our children. This option is based on the notions that television creates a negative behavior in children and also it disturbs family relationship.
To begin with, I believe that watching television can pose a negative behavior in children. Although there are many productive and useful program that our children can make use of, still there are some of them can aggravate the negative manner that will eventually lead to negative consequences. By way of example, my 5 years old son’s favorite episode is “bagelgun ” which is a guy my son admires and never missed watching it. This guy that is my son’s interest, uses guns and other fatal weapons to kill enemies. Based on thisconcep, my son’s perception is that to win, he has to be aggressive. Furthermore, this will not only affect them while they are still young, but also they will suffer when they become independent adult and the society will reject and may punish them because of this unacceptable manner. Therefore, television has some serious effect on children through certain programs and we have to direct our children to choose the best that will suit their ages so they can make use of them.In addition to the consideration of the negative impact on behaviors, I feel that watching television is a destroying element to family relationship. It is a fact that in our modern life, there is no house and no television inside. In other word, people think that because of the importance of televtion, it should be available for and accessible to them in their main location, so they can feel the effect of technology of using the television to keep them informed with what is going on around the world. However, watching television lead to a r between family member especially between children and their parents. Children who spend most of the time watching their beloved movies are sometimes not able to listen or even talk to their parents or relatives who are are living with them in the same house. Theydon’t have time for that or even to do their chores at home. Moreover, because they are busy trying to catch what they are seeing, they are more likely emotionally attracted to the hero in the movie and they seem to be totally isolated from the other’s world. And, this will gradually make them careless about orders and requests given by their parents because they used to sit, think and may be enjoy watching alone. This is, undoubtly, one of the major casue of destroying the family relationship which once it is broken, it is very hard to make it up and return it back to normal. So, watching television certainly destroy the bond that should exist between parents and their children.
In sum, my consideration of the issues that television affect negatively on children’s behaviors and the serious effect on destroying the family bond between family members, I agree with the global assertion that watching television is bad for children.

You've possibly gone into TOO much detail for just two main ideas, and risk repeating yourself too much. I recommend scaling back your use of detail and examples and exploring three main body paragraph ideas instead of two.
:-)
Television is one the most exciting entertainment for many children. There is still debate whether this way of entertainment is good for kids or not. Some people agree that TV is good for kids because it is entertaining and amusing, but I, personally, think that TV is the reason for an unhealthy lifestyle for kids and problem for family.
To begin with, it is true that TV broadcast many good sport programs same as soccer and football which are amusing, but watching TV is unhealthy because it is a passive activity for children and inactivity can cause obesity which is the main reason for many diseases same as diabetes and hypertension. In addition, recent research proved that children who watch TV not only suffer from inactivity but also from unhealthy way of eating. Unhealthy way of eating is when they are busy watching their favorite movie, they eat more and more and then they don’t realize they are full. Moreover, they like to eat unhealthy foods which are advertised in TV same as chips and cheetoz. In one word TV prevents kids from doing healthy activity and encourages them to have unhealthy eating.
In addition to unhealthy lifestyle, TV cause familial problems. Although some people believe that TV gather family together for watching their favorite program and it is entertaining, but I think it prevents some family to do something together other than watching TV. For instance, family usually likes to eat, go out, and entertain together and TV prevents kids from participating in the familial activity by attracting them to their movies. For example, my friend’s kids don’t show up with their parent in cottage to spend some beautiful time together on the weekend because they want to stay in home and watch their favorite movies and it make my friend unhappy. Another example of familial problem caused by TV is when kids like to have advertised toys and parents don’t have enough money or they don’t want to spend their money in this way and it makes some for of argument or conflict in home. These familial problems are only the result of watching TV by kids.
In summary, TV is not only responsible for unhealthy lifestyle for kids but also problems in family. So, it is better that parents occupy their kids with other healthy activities like sport. Parents, also, can spend more time with their kids to make them ready for future life same as teaching them how to be more responsible in household chores.

:-D
When I was a young student in elementary school, my parents did not allow me to watch televisionduring the week. I was waiting for the weekends to watch my preferred cartoon that I have never forgotten. I always thought that television is among the best tool of education for kids. However, now that I am a parent of two little sons, I definitely believe that watching television has a negative impact on children's health, minds and values.
To begin with, children spend many hours watching tv. They are unaware of the harm that tv can have on their eyesights. Consequently, many children get eyeglasses at early age. Moreover, the habit of eating while watching tv, is common in almost every house. Often kids have an enourmous amount of unhealthy sneaks in addition to their meals. Chips and candies are regular companions of the young spectators. Therefore, they lack physical activities and tend to gain weight. Nowadays, obesity among children is a major concern.
In addition to health problems that tv can cause, its damgerous impact on children's minds is also a big issue that adults must think about it seriously. Even though some educational programs are useful for kids to aquire learning skills, the majority of movies and series show a lot of aggression and violence. Instead of dreaming of angels and princesses, children want to be heros in the street after may be robbing a bank or fighting with each other, in fact they need to apply what they watch in the real life. For instance, every time my son watches a movie about fighting he becomes aggressive. He thinks that to be a strong man, he must be aggressive.
Finally, kids values have been changing after the intrusion of tv in every house. Many years ago, honesty, respect and altruism were the main goals in raising children. Now, these kids are watching advertisements and different shows that influence their behavior. They tend to be selfishness and materialistic. For instance, my young son wants to buy every toy that he sees in tv. He never thinks about the family budget. I am worried about his materialistic character.
To sum up, I absolutely think that watching tv has a bad influence on children, especially in their health, minds and values. However, under adult supervision tv is a wonderful tool of education.I am glad that I had responsible parents who were there to take care of me all the time

Almost a perfect essay. Some errors with spelling confused some of your key ideas, and punctuation needs a little improvement as well, but overall - excellent essay.
:D
Although there is some positive opinion about the effect of TV on children, I am certion that TV has any desirable influence on kids.
First of all, most TV programs are designed for making profit. Although, there are some public related programs, it is well known that TV programs intend to draw interest from people because almost all broadcasting companies gain thier profit by advertisements which always need more people to watch them. Therefore, even some programs for kids are too violent and provocative.
Secondly, children are more easily additive to TV than adults. As childen are not able to control their desires, it is hard to prohibit them from watching TV. Like being tempted with candies, once children are obsessed with TV, they tend to crave for it no matter how hard adults persuade them not to do. From my own experience, my nephew had started watching TV when he was 4 years because my mom did not really prevented it. However, after 2 years, now he always watches TV more than 8 hours even when eating meals.
Finally, childen tend to learn passive attitudes by TV. Because watching TV does not require any other activities, kids become lazy and still when they are absorbed in TV. Unlike other materials such as books or newspaper, TV is just one way of communication means. Therefore, children tend to become possitive, so that they accept everything comes from TV without active thinking. According to some studies, people brought up with TV tend to have difficulties in making their own desicions.
In summary, most programs are not only suitable for children but also very additive. Moverover, those childen surrounded by TV become likely to be passive even when they grow up. For these reason, I have any reason to support the positive effect of TV on our kids.

Personally, i agree that watching television is bad for children.I have good reasons to support my position.
To begin with, Academic records of children are the first victim.Children loose interest in the school activities they do not do their home works nor read their daily lessons.Developed nations has realized the trend and falling higher education enrollment. To add a example, The United states president
Mr.Obama mentioned that declining national literacy rate among the Americans is great concern for him and attributed this to increased hours of television watching by children. Now we can understand the magnitude of the issue and need a proper control over this, and parents should take responsibility to monitor their children.
In addition, the cartoon network and video games disturb young minds to do heroic activities and promote violence. We have witnessed shoot out in schools and colleges, its not a accidental case of aggression by children or adults, this is a clear case of changing mindset among the youngsters. this seed of violence can be traced to television programmes or video games. Considering a example of a school children who watches a violent programme in the television stages it in the class room by bullying other children some times he attacks them with weapons. For him its just a reproduction or imitation of what he seen the visual media. To stop this activity we need to censor the channels viewed by children, and help them to divert their attention to other activities like sports etc.
Finally, these children end up "couch potatos", leading to obesity. sedentary lifestyles, lack of activities causes obesity in young age. This affects their self esteem. when they grow into adults they feel discriminated and indulge in anti social activities. Television offers good programmes too but competition and advertisement compulsion makes them to show round the clock programmes. I think they should also act responsibly and restrict themselves.
To sum up, Television has done more harm to children then entertaining them.Taking into the world over statistics children are exposed to more hours of television watching, this should be reduce and this should be the responsibility of parents.

Here we have an interesting topic. Is the TV good for children? or not?
As the acient poet says "Everything is like the mirror's colour we see trough".
I remember my first TV, when I was a child, there was only 1 channel to watch. Mainly news and quite advertising.
Now, we can choose among hundreds and hundreds of channels all the day, year round.
Would be unfair to ignore the great contribution that TV broadcast has done for all the world.
For example, we can easily know the weather forecast, and get prepared for it. This, in certain areas, is extremely important, and I could say, life-saver.
Also, I'm a fan of educational programs, specially about health, and traveling.
Maybe many people can't afford for a tourism trip to many beautiful countries and cultures around the world, but trough the TV, we can know more about them, and feel closer to our dreamed destinations!
But, certainly, there are many cases in wich the TV has brought problems more than solutions.
For example, the parents can use the TV as a baby-sitter. Initially we could think it works greatly!
But if you take a closer look, you can see that the TV is not for that.
The children can be exposed to inadecuate levels of violence, pornography and other related things.
The entertainment can become a harmfull activity if there is no parental control!
Also it can become an habbit. I know many people who can't pass one day without watching their programs. If watching TV interrupts your normal social relationships with family, or friends, it's definitively not a good thing.
But we could spend hours analyzing the pros and disadvantages of the TV. I think that's not the point.
Personally, I believe that watching TV, is like the money. It can be a good, or bad thing.
It has not a true value itself. Is the manner we use it, what give it a good or bad perception.
We could say that TV can be as good as a lifesaver for people that need to get prepared against a hurrican, or can be as harmfull as a gun itself, for children who absorb too many violence. It can unify the family to watch a movie, or can be the reason to avoid a familiar meeting with our relatives.
If we don't make rules and put limits for the use of the TV, surely we will be overhelmed by it's potential. And we won't be able to enjoy it.
As the poet I paraphrased at the beginning, the TV itself can be both; a nice entertainer, or a risk for family and children.
Thanks

Hi jason,
this is my response to the independent essay task 1
Nowadays, children are becoming interactive about the modern technology and the existence of varius forms of media.Commonly, exposure to television is one of the current issues being raised by the parents and teachers regarding the effect brought about by the programs seen by the children. In my opinion, watching television does not contribute bad affects to the young people provided their is parental guidance.I strongly believe it is educational and beneficial to the children because it expose them to various information, entertainment and promoting them interaction to the family members.
One of the most important points of exposing the young people to media such as television is it's educational aspect. Children are more inclined to watch with pictures and movement in the screen and they get interested to listen what's happening around the world.Morever, they get a lot of information like for example watching news both locally and internationally. Even the different kinds of advertisements, they are also interested to follow this regulary because it introduces new interesting products and eventually, they get some relevant ideas and knowledge.
In addition, it gives entertainment to the children because there are a lot of televesion programs that gives interest to them. For example, cartoon networks offer various disney character, or Nickledeon program series that gives them joy and excitement to watch on regular basis especially if there's no school.I believe that kids are easily inclined to boredom by their daily routine like going to school and coming home, so they need some form of diversion aside from playing.
Furthermore, family gathers wherever everyone is available and this is the only time they can do the same activity together like watching their favorite television program. Though this event, children are getting more involved and interactive with the adults because thet can raise interesting questions to them. For example, if they are watching news and one of the children will ask his parents about a certain topic that is vague to him. Indeed, it became an interesting time for them to give feedback to their concerns.
Therefore, I do believe that watching television is strongly recommended for the children because of it's informative, entertaining and interactive and educational reasons. However, their must be always parental guidance and time limitation for this exposure so that they will not be misled and addicted to it.

Do you agree or disagree with the following?
Watching television is bad for children.
Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.
Children need new and fresh information in order to grow
their brain. It may come from parents or their baby sister and the other
important source is TV. The television programmes help children to develop
thinking ability and perception about the objects around them. From my point of
view, I do believe that watching television is not bad for children.
First of all, majority television programme contain useful
information in helping children learning. We have to teach them in number of
things, of course language. Parents and people surround them will try to
communicate with their little kids by saying the same words in different ways. This
is the process of developing children speaking skill. My 8 years old son is not
only able to speak Lao but also French. It is because he has watched French Cartoon
since he was age 2. This is not a magic at all, it is because of children can
learn many things. Their brain is out of limited, so why won’t we use the TV as
the assistance tool for children learning.
In addition to the children learning ability, I think that
TV promote the imgagination of children. Many children channel are available on
the TV, and they contain variety information for specially children. One of
programme has shown the sience technology lesions for kids. The announcer of
programme is a small, lovely, intelligent and attractive kid. She presents basic
facts in technology communication series. For instance, in website, graphic design.
One day, my little son, ask me to buy him a laptop, because he want to create
the website for our family. I then ask him, where did you get this idea from?
He said that, it is from TV programme which each week will teach kid to build
simple website. Or course, the kid may get the new idea from other souce but TV
has broght valuable information for kids.
Last but not least, in consideration to the benefit for the
children in learning and get new idea from watching TV programme. I think TV is
the entertainment place for them. You may notice how much kids are happy when
they saw their cartoon hero winning over the enemy, or the story of famous
cartoon – Tom and Jerry. Young adult go to see movie and they can have more
entertainments around them but not too much for kids. Therefore, TV programme
is a place for them to relax after their studying hard at school.
Considering to the bnefit of TV programme as the learning
tools, help children to creat imagination, and the place for them to entertain.
These factors lead me to believe that allowing children to watch TV is totally
beneficial for them.

Personally, I disagree with the idea that watching TV is not good for children. In my view, Parents can take advantage of TV programs in several ways such as; a source of learning; and as an intertaning tool.
To begin with, children can learn lots of things from TV programs. There are plenty of TV shows that teaches children about different subjects. I mean, nowadays TV chanels are producing a lot of pofecional programs that are very effective learning tools for children. While some people may think that watching a TV program is not worthed to learn something considering the time it takes to convey informations, but in my perspective, considering coast and benefit, its a valuable tool to teach children. From my own experience, my two years old boy learned a lot from TV cartoons. My wife and I are not speaking English at home so its hard to teach English to our baby. Since we are living in the United State, after a while I saw that my boy is peaking up English alphabet and words from the TV cartoons and special teaching programs from TV.
In addition to that, TV programs are very good intertaining tools. To me, some of them are really fun and children can enjoy it during their lisure time. Its true that some of TV shows are not suitable for them and they may induce stress and sometimes produce bad habits in children, but I think if parents select some proper TV shows and cartoons for their kids it can be very fun and enjoyable for them. For instance, I usually check the TV programs and choose the fun ones for my kid. I try to find some chanels that have very calm and funny programs and also the ones that learn some social aspects in their stories. For example, my son enjoys the cartoon named "caillo". Its an animation cartoon that the little boy in the cartoon experiences different things and gets to know some good social behaviors as well.
To sum up, these reasons lead me to believe that waching TV could be a very good sourse of learning for children and they can intertain them to have fun and learn social values from them. According to my experiences, if parents find some good TV programs, they can use this tool effectively and they should be mindful of not letting their children to be addicted to the TV.
In these days, almost every household has one or more television. Indeed, many people contend that television has become something essential and indispensable part of our life. The question whether television is good or bad for our children has attracted many debates everywhere. This essay will consider some arguments of the allowing children to watch TV programs and point to some problem with these views. It will then put forward a number of reasons why limiting TV time is actually beneficial for children.
Some people argue that many television programs educate children as young as babies and broaden their knowledge. For example, it was claimed that Baby Einstein video series can help children's brain develop better and enable children to have advance vocabulary skills. However, there is no scientific evidence that prove that TV is actually educating children. In fact, as published in CNN a few weeks ago, Disney has offer full refunds to any customers who purchased a Baby Einsteins video from 2004 to 2009.
The defender of TV maintained that TV provide affordable entertainment alternative for children. They said that the cost of cinema tickets are so expensive nowadays, it cost family of four at least forty-dollars to watch one movie, not including the cost of the food and drinks. While it is true to a certain degree that TV is less expensive than watching movie or going to theme parks, there are many 'free' entertainment around us that is often overlooked. One example of these are books. We can borrow children books from library for free. It allows us to read books to our children. Furthermore, we can increase our children' curiosity and love for reading. This will undoubtedly open a whole new world of imagination and creativity in children's life.
There are many violent acts in TV programs. For example, in Fairly Oddparents, Vicky the babysitter often manipulate Timmy to do many jobs for her so that she can get extra money.
In addition to that, the language spoken in many children's program are not proper. There are many cussing, cursing and name-calling. In Spongebob, Squidward likes to say "stupid moron' to his friends. Would you like those awful words in your children's vocabulary? I don't think you would. Moreover, when you watch TV, you are actually being passive. There is no room left for your imagination to grow. Furthermore, there are so many commercials in TV that target young audience who do not have the ability to differentiate between advertising propaganda or accurate information.
In conclusion, we are responsible to choose what is best for our children, be informed of what our children are watching. If we continue to allow our children to watch these unnecessary TV programs, we will do disservice to our children.
TOPIC: "Watching television is bad for
children"
Ask any children from age
four to age seventeen what they think of television, you can be assured that
they will say television is one of the best invention ever created on
earth. Likewise, ask any adult what they
think of television effects on children and you will have conflicting opinions.
This essay will discuss some arguments for and against television effect on
children and why I think TV has bad effect on children and it is best to limit
television time.
It is often claimed that
television has many positive effects on children. It provides educational value for children
because it teaches children how to behave, socialize and solve problem. While it is true to a certain degree, there
are so many television programs these days that do not qualify to be called
educational. One of the most popular TV program aiming for children audience is
Hannah Montana. Girls as young as a first-grader love this program. Have you,
as a parent, actually watched this program? Hannah Montana is starred by teenagers;
most of the topics are about love, relationship and teenage life. Nowadays, many fourth graders who idolizes Hannah Montana actually goes to
school wearing short dress, make ups and talk about love. This is just doesn’t seem right.
How many children actually
watch Discovery Channel or Animal Planet? Not that many, I guarantee. How many
children watch Disney Channel and Nickelodeon? You will see many children
raised their hands. Why? Because Nickelodeon is fun and entertaining, and
Discovery Channel is boring. Children tend to use TV for entertainment
purposes, not educational purpose. And, it is fine if you want your children to
be entertained on some days. However, almost every television program includes ‘forbidden’
words that you would never teach or said to your children in your daily
conversation. Don’t be surprised if your children said ‘stupid’ or ‘damn’ when
he is angry or upset.
Have you ever heard your
children asked you to buy one product – be it toy or snack - that they saw in
television? They would rave about it and kept asking you until you gave in. It is commonly said that the way to the
parents’ pocket is through children, and it is very true. We, as parents would
hesitate for a long time before we buy something for ourselves, but for our
children, we would do everything to make them happy and satisfied. In addition to that, we sometimes feel guilty
if we deny our children certain things, especially if both parents are working
and do not have enough time with our children.
Furthermore, it is common
that children have their own television set in their room these days. Many parents seem to believe that having more
than one television in the house keep everybody happy. Parents can watch sport
programs, children can watch Disney programs. Consequently, parents have less
control over children’s media consumptions.
In conclusion, watching
television is not qualified as educational purposes. It is more of an
entertaining media, and it has many negative effects on children development.
If we continue to let children watch too many television programs, it will be
difficult to stop them later on. Thus, if we cannot eliminate television from
our children’s life, we have to at the very least limit television time.
Some people might think that television does
harm to children because they like television and tend to watch it for long
hours instead of conversation with family. In addition, you might find a
violent or sexual program which you don’t want to show children. However, I personally
disagree with the statement “watching is bad for children”.
To begin with, I think that television
could be good educational tool for children. Nowadays, there are many
educational programs in a variety of fields such as science, history and foreign
languages. They are usually designed well by professional TV stuff so that
children can understand many things easily. In the programs, you can find
different approaches to give children a valuable lecture visually including video
made by computer graphics, short drama or scientific experiments. Not only
educational programs but also regular programs could offer educational
information through a quiz show or a historical story. For example, when I was
a child I used to watch an animation program based on the story about French
revolution every week. Thanks to the program, I understood what happened in
France at that time and I got interested in European history very much.
In addition to educational factor of
television, I feel that children can communicate well with their friends about
common topic. Consider, for example, when a very popular program for children
is on air, many children must watch the program at home and then they would talk
about it in their school on the next day. They could get know a new story of a
drama or popular songs by watching television and would find favorite actors or
songs. Children can share common topic with their classmates. It makes children
get closer to their classmates and they can build friendship. Television offers
many kinds of program and people are interested in a different program depending
on their age. Children in same age would be interested in a same program which
they can share topic about.
Finally, alongside educational aspect and
building friendship among classmates, I believe that children can find admire profession
by watching television. You often find a drama or documentary based on a story
of professional worker like a doctor, lawyer and police. Usually a professional
person in a program is depicted as a hero who can solve a difficult problem or
help people in need. It is true that the kind of story is very different from
reality, but such a successful story would inspire children to have a goal and
study hard to become an ideal profession. According to my own experience, there
was a popular drama about a story of middle school teacher in my childhood. The
story had problems made by different students every week and the teacher always
solves the problems. I really admired him and started studying hard to become a
teacher.
In considering about watching television
for children, I have explored issues such as educational programs; better
communication with friends; and setting of future goals. These factors lead me to
disagree with the assertion that watching television is bad for children.
According to my experiences, if parents find some good TV programs, they can use this tool effectively and they should be mindful of not letting their children to be addicted to the TV.-kazema

Very good response, and the ideas you present are extremely well supported. There are some very basic spelling errors, however, that I think would pull your score down from a 4.0. You need to make sure the spelling is more accurate, and try to include a third main reason - even if it is a little briefer than the preceding ones.

Interesting approach to your essay - not the usual way I recommend for this sort of essay, but it does work quite effectively for you! The introduction has some unnecessary statements of purpose which I think you could avoid and use that time to develop your body paragraphs more. The final body paragraph is slightly confusing, because it doesn't appear to have a clear topic sentence or direction - it appears to be a random collection of negative aspects.

TOPIC: "Watching television is bad for children"Ask any children from age four to age seventeen what they think of television, you can be assured that they will say television is one of the best invention ever created on earth. Likewise, ask any adult what they think of television effects on children and you will have conflicting opinions. This essay will discuss some arguments for and against television effect on children and why I think TV has bad effect on children and it is best to limit television time.
It is often claimed that television has many positive effects on children. It provides educational value for children because it teaches children how to behave, socialize and solve problem. While it is true to a certain degree, there are so many television programs these days that do not qualify to be called educational. One of the most popular TV program aiming for children audience is Hannah Montana. Girls as young as a first-grader love this program. Have you, as a parent, actually watched this program? Hannah Montana is starred by teenagers; most of the topics are about love, relationship and teenage life. Nowadays, many fourth graders who idolizes Hannah Montana actually goes to school wearing short dress, make ups and talk about love. This is just doesn’t seem right.
How many children actually watch Discovery Channel or Animal Planet? Not that many, I guarantee. How many children watch Disney Channel and Nickelodeon? You will see many children raised their hands. Why? Because Nickelodeon is fun and entertaining, and Discovery Channel is boring. Children tend to use TV for entertainment purposes, not educational purpose. And, it is fine if you want your children to be entertained on some days. However, almost every television program includes ‘forbidden’ words that you would never teach or said to your children in your daily conversation. Again, this is a bit of an unusual approach, but it does work well! While I guess I would like to see your arguments constructed more solidly around clear main reasons, the extended use of examples in your writing makes it quite strong.
