The main idea of the reading passage is that there are various disadvantages in use of wind power. The professor, however, casts doubt on this argument by making several points.
To begin with, the professor asserts that the energy engaged with the facilities of wind power can be made up with the energy by wind power. He says that it would not take more than nine month to be paid off. This casts doubt on the point in the reading passage that the energy for setting up wind power is considerable.Secondly, he claims that the numbers of birds killed by wind turbines were exaggerated. He also quotes the Denmark Study by findings that migratory birds tend to avoid wind turbines. This contradicts the point of the reading passage which states that wind turbines threat migratory birds.
The reading passages also asserts that it is not the effective way of using land because a large amount of land is required for wind power. The professor also disagrees with this point as well by pointing out that the rest land can be utilized for agricultural or any other purposes.
Finally, in terms of aesthetics, the professor disputes that there are many people who actually enjoy the sceanary of wind power. He reports a recent study which states that only 17 percent of people dislike landscapes with wind power. Therefore, this is also contradiced by the point in the reading passage that wind power gives negative visual impacts on landscape.

The reading passage and the lecture talk about the wind power. The listening passage casts doubts on the drawbacks of this alternarive souce of energy presented in the reading passage.
The professor says that the wind power pays back costs of its setting up after approximately nine months. This casts doubts on the claim in the reading passage that the wind power plants require a lot of energy for manufacture and transport resulting in a negative `carbon footprint.'
The second point where the lecture contradicts the reading is about the threat of wind turbines to migratory birds. The professor says that the number of birds killed by the wind turbines is faraway lower than the number of birds killed by cars, high buildings, and pollution. To illustrate this point,
he reports a recent study from Danmark showing that migratory birds tend to avoid the wind turbines, and take other itineraries. In addition, the offshore locations of wind turbines makes them insignificant as a threat to bats.
Furthermore, the professor maintains that the construction of each turbine does not need a lot of land therfore does not affect the amount of land used for agricuture and cattle farming. This contradicts what the reading passage asserted.
Finally, the reading passage states that wind turbines are ugly and have a negative impact on landscapes. The professor contradicts this claim and presents a UK study showing that 70% of people enjoy and are not disturbed by the sight of these turbines. Therfore the wind turbines are not an aesthetic problem as the reading claims.

The reading passage and the lecture both focus on wind power, but express opposing viewpoints. Whereas the reading passage disagrees with using of wind power and presents some serious disadvantages associated with the generation of wind power, the lecture, however, agrees with using of wind power and disputes the arguments of the reading passage.
To begin with, the professor points out that the expense and energy that used for set up wind power would pay back within nine months. This casts doubt on the point in the reading passage that energy required to set up stage of wind farms is considerable.
In addition, the professor also claims that birds and bats are killed by cars rather than by turbines. He quotes a recent study from Denmark that birds could avoid the area of the turbines. Moreover, most of wind farms are located at offshore location which cannot effect to bats. These refutes the point of the reading passage which states that a lot of birds and bats are killed by wind turbines.
Furthermore, the reading passage also explains that wind farms use large amounts of land for effective positioning of turbines togenerate enough power. On the other hand, the professor opposes ths point by stating that wind farms actually require just little space and also we can use space in wind farm for agriculture.
Finally, the professor and the reading passage both touch on the issue of aesthetics. The professor finishes by asserting that wind turbines are located far from where peopl live, so it does not have negative effect for living of people. He says that there are a lot of people who enjoy the scenary of turbines. He reports from a United kingdom study that 70 % of people did not mind about visual impact of turbines. Therefore, these would seem to cast doubt on the argument in the reading passage that turbines have negative effect on visual impact of landscape.

The text and the lecture discuss about the topic of wind power. The Lecturer cast doubt on the several disadvantages presented in the text by providing some reasons that support windpower benefits.
To begin with, the professor mentioned that wind power needs initial energy, but the cost of initial energy that a wind power needs can be compensated after 9 months of its operation. This seems to cast doubt on the information in the reading that "considerable energy" is needed to set up the wind farm.
In addition to the energy aspect of windpower, the speaker claimed that pollution and high buildings kill more birds than wind power's turbines. He gave an example that in Denmark some research proved that birds can stay away from wind power area without any harm to their migration. Having in mind that location of wind power are offshore, there would be less possibility wind power turbines kill birds and bats. This directly challenges the assertion stated in reading passage that some birds and bats are being killed by wind power's turbines.
The speaker finish his claim by explaining that wind power only needs small windy space where it is away from places that people usually choose to live, so there would be enough land for agriculture, and also would be away from people's vision. Furthermore, according to survey 70 percent of people like the wind power scenery. This appears to be a contradiction to the information stated in the passage which assert that wind power occupy agriculture lands and makes our environment and vision look ugly.
The reading passage and lecture discusses about wind energy, its advantages and disadvantages as a alternative energy. The lecture counter the points put forwarded against the wind power installation.
To begin with, the lecture explains the cost factor and asserts that the expenditure can be recovered in nine months. The lectures adds that more birds are killed due to human activities like Accidents,Construction and Pollution then turbines .With this the issue of loss of migratory birds to wind turbines is answered amicably.
In addition, The space requirements to set up a turbine is much less, and not as stated by the reading passage. Further they are built in remote area and near beach, where there is huge waste land and even the argument of bats falling pray to turbines thinking it as roosting place is also countered.
Finally the lecture gives more evidence to prove that turbine don't spoil the beauty of landscapes. They are built in difficult terrain which is not easily accessible to people.Even when they are near the housing area, people have no complaints. some like it and even think it looks as comical.

Hi Jason! Thanks for this innovative way to study for the TOEFL! ;)
So, here is my response for the Writing task 1:
Our topic is the Wind energy, as a new way of "clean energy".
It's known that this is a new way of energy and some countries are focusing on this.
But of course, as any new thing, there are many advantages and disadvantages about it.
Those are discused. Firstly, the reading passage describes some disadvantages for Wind energy devices, like the high cost to set them up, but in the other hand, the listening record, remember us that this initial cost, compared with the amount of energy generated since the beginning will be repaid quickly by the Wind turbines.
Also, the reading passage states that it's a risk for some migratiorial birds and some bats, to be attracted by the Wind turbines and get dead or injured. Maybe this can be true, but the person who talks us, remark that this possibility is too few in comparison with the amount of animals dead by cars, high buildings, and pollution.
Other point of discussion, is the aesthetics. Maybe to have several wind turbines in the neighbor is not a nice landscape, and also they need the land that could be used for agriculture purposes or even for housing, etc. But, and with this I personally agree, the listening notice that the Wind turbines need to be located in extremely windy areas that are hardly inhabited. Moreover, according to a new research, up to 70% of the interviewed people states that they might like or maybe don't matter if the turbines are near from their houses. Also the turbines can be located offshore, so any land is needed.
Based in these data, I can say that personally I believe this way to produce energy, is feasible, but need to be improved.
Maybe in the near future, when the gas shortage will be deeper, the mankind will focus on these and other alternative energy production ways.

To begin with, the professor points out that wind power tirbune constructions pay back itself in just 9 months. This casts doubt on the point in the reading passage that setting wind farm needs too much energy.
The professor also claims that figures of the death migratory birds and bats are exaggerated. He says that when compared to other reasons of dying migratory birds and bats like cars or buildings, this exaggeration can be seen clearly.
The reading passage also asserted that wind farms need large amount of lands. The professor disputes this point as well, pointing out where these wind farms are located. He says that these lands are generally chosen from offshore or isolated areas where people do not live.
The professor finishes by asserting that in terms of their visual appearance, people generally like them. He quotes from UK study with findings that 90 percent of people love their appearance or do not mind it.This appears to be a contradiction to the information stated in the reading passage, which asserts that wind tirbunes have negative visual impact on people and this is problematic in terms of aesthetics.

Hi Jason, this is my response to integrated writing test, question 1
The reading passage presents adverse effects of wind power as a substitute source of energy. However, the professor disputes the information based on the article and he stated the positive impact about the wind turbine.
To begin with, the professor expresses his opinion about the wind generation plants which is ideally the set up will consume for just an average of nine months. This casts doubts stated in the reading passage that establishing a wind farm requires a large amount of energy especially for the manufacturer and any forms of transport. Thus, results to a negative carbon footprint.
In addition, the professor also claims that having a wind turbines does not totally create a threat to migratory birds and other species of bats and in fact, this issue is unimportant compare to the number of fatality caused by car accidents or any devastation caused by humans. Furthermore, he presents a recent study from Denamark that migratory birds can escape the location of wind turbines and besides, it's common location is offshore that supported his opinion, negligible of threat to birds.
Finally, the reading passage asserted that wind energy caused bad influence to the land because it utilizes a large area of soil in order to make a worthwhile enterprise. However, the professor refutes the idea based on this issue in the reading passage, he emphasizes that wind turbines just consume a minimal land since the majority of the land area is used for other purposes like agriculture and cattle farming.
In considering all these ideas presented by the lecturer, he finishes by convincing that commonly, these wind turbines location are in isolated areas where it does'nt contribute negative impact to the human and to the environment.
Hi Jason,
In the written article and lecture is explaining about the
wind power. Reading passage is describing the disadvantages of the wind power. However
professor in disputing the points made in the lecture. Professor cast the doubt
on the points made in the reading passage by making several points.
First point, Professor is state that birds killed by the wind turbine
are negligible, when compare with the birds killed by the car accidents. Professor
quote the study conducted in the explain that, migrating
birds avoid the turbine wings near the wind power station as they take the different
route. Which is different form the points made in the reading passage where it
state the birds killed by wind power is one of the disadvantage.
Second point, Farms
acquiring the land for placing the wind power, Nowadays are constructed in the
offshore, which are away from the agriculture land. However in reading passage assert
the large effective land is used by wind power. In addition to that professor
assert that power winds are constructed in remote areas, where is in people won’t
prefer to live.
Finally professor
argues that, People really won’t give much importance to the esthetics
disturbed by wind power. This is also opposite opinion made in the article.
In conclusion
professor challenges the claims made in the reading passage by explaining the
real factors which avoids the disadvantage of the wind power.
Hello Jason,
my summarizing to question 1 of the practice test:
The reading and lecture passage discuss the topic of wind power as a new kind of energy resource. The professor casts doubt on different keys the negative argumentations of the wind power, which was given in the reading passage.
The professor begins to talk about the costs of constructing the wind wheels. He indicates that an investment will be paid already nine months after the completion, so it is very profitable to build them. This challenges the assertion of the reading that a lot of energy is necessary for making these machines.
Secondary, the professor criticizes the assertion in the reading about the host of killing birds by the turbines. He use the example that there are more accidents with death birds in cities occurs by crashes while driving a car or because of the big windows of skyscrapers or other buildings.
In addition to that, the professor explains that there is enough land capacity for the huge machines. The turbines work with the power of wind and need also a lot of place between them, so it is necessary to position them in an even landscape where strong wind is given. On these places there are not so much people who like to live there because of complications with supporting and life quality. So based on this the professor indicate that a land with small population density can be used for the production of wind energy and the land can also be used for agriculture without neglect for the capacity. The professor demonstrates an example about Denmark, where the area was avoided.
Last but not least, to opposite the argument about the esthetic problems in the reading the professor talks about a statistic that 70 % of people never mind to live in the near of the turbines.
The reading passage states that wind power
has some serious disadvantages in spite of its benefits. However, the professor
claims that the points are not problematic and refutes the author’s reasons.
To begin with, the professor explains that
once a generation of wind power starts running it can pay back the cost of its
set up within nine months. This casts doubt on the point in the reading passage
that the wind power spends a lot of energy for manufacture and transport in the
stage of setting up wind farms.
The reading passage also claims that wind
turbines threat to migrating birds or bats. However, the professor explains
that the number of birds or bats being killed by them is not serious. He says that
more birds are killed by cars, buildings or pollution rather than by wind
turbines. He asserts that according to a study in Denmark, this kind of birds
or bats can avoid the threat in the area of power farms and off shores which have
many wind firms doesn’t do harm to bats.
In addition, the professor states that off
shores having wind turbines are stretched and requires only a little land use.
He claims that the power farms can be utilized for agriculture and grazing.
This point would seem to cast doubt on the argument in the reading passage that
wind farms require large amounts of land to generate effective wind power.
The professor finishes by asserting that
wind farms are usually away from the area where people live. He explains that
even if there are wind farms in people’s living area, in a study by British researchers
70 % people don’t mind a wind farm in their community. This point disputes the
reading passage that wind turbines give negative visual impact where people
live.
