Nowadays, food has become easier to prepare. Has this change improved the way people live? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
I do not
fully agree with the above statement for the reasons related to health, culture
and personal.
Health –
First of all, the easier methods to prepare the food available worldwide are
either by using microwave or by using the frozen foods. The micro waved foods
are most susceptible to cause some dangerous diseases because of the harmful
radiations they pass through. Even the scientists do not recommend for it. No
doubt that it enables us to dine within no time but it is associated with a
huge loss of vitamins and other nutrients. Frozen foods on the other side also
take no time to get cooked but they are not fed alone but with their life
enhancers called as preservatives. These preservatives are used as additives in
the food and cause negligible harm if consumed rarely. It can prove harmful if
taken in as a routine feeding habit. So it is not good if followed regularly.
Cultural
– Each society has a definite system comprising of a specific dressing, living
style. language and traditional food. There would be no one to challenge me for
saying that traditional food is the best and nutritious food to eat. It is
better to use frozen or readily available foods at the time of emergencies like
if some guest happens to arrive uninformingly. In human society since ages it
was the female head that used to cook food for her dozens of children. She used
to cook it with love and enthusiasm. Now the time has changed and most of the
women are working ladies. They cannot spend too much time cooking good foods.
But they can definitely play a role in their children’s lives by not
habituating them to the junk food commonly available in the bakery stores.
Personal
– I strongly feel against the current trend of preparing food because the way
it is prepared makes it more adulterated and renders it completely deficient
for meeting the normal dietary recommendations. It not only hampers us from
taking a good and efficient diet but also pampers our sense of taste. We get
accustomed to such tastes. I can provide an instance of my own. Whenever I feel
very tired of my daily routine, I order vegetarian pizza online. It contains
the melted cheese which is all fats and lipids and thus it increases my
cholesterol level. Despite knowing all good and bad about it I can’t stop
myself from eating it because it has to some extent pampered my sense of taste
which can really spoil my health in the due course of time.
So
for these reasons I think that no doubt cooking has been made easier which is a
sort of temporary relief but a long lasting problem .Therefore I feel it has
not improved the life of people.
Please Score me.
I do not agree with the argument that the life of people has been improved due to the development of the food industry.
To begin with, in the modern society, people are not healthier than in the past. From my own experience, when I had to cook by myself since I had moved to Vancouver, I often used the prepared food such as instant noodles or frozen food, which I had hardly eaten when I was in Korea because my mom always made fresh meals for me. Therefore, I found myself not as healthy as what I used to be because I got a cold so often since I started to eat those quick food.
Secondly, food is not valued as much as what it used to be. In the past, people regarded food as one of the most valuable things in the life because the suppliment of food was not as high as nowadays. However, nowadays, as the food industry has been developed, a huge number of food are flooded around us. For example, it was considered to leave food on a plate in the past, however, so much food garbage are witnessed nowadays.
Finally, the development of the food industry has brought about the imbalance of distribution of food in the world. As everyone might know, many children die from starvation in some contries, whereas some people in the developed contries are always worried about their diet because they eat too much.
In summary, people become ill due to the change, and, they do not count on food as much as importantly as they did in the past. Moreover, there has been big imbalance of distibution with food in the world. For these reasons, I do not support that the more prepared food has helped for the improvment of people's daily lives.
the answer to the question would depend on what one understands by the statement "now a days preparing the food has become easier". does this mean that the innovations in the technology like the microwave owen and the electic cooker has reduced the time and labour involved or that the availability of the ready to eat items has liberated us from daily cooking. in both the cases the the ostensible advantage is that the effort which one had to put into cooking is reduced which may be advantageous for those leading a fast pace life who have no time to cook their own food. but other than that i donot see any great influence which it has on the lives of the people.
admittedly availability of the ready made foods can be a real boon for some people in the society like the students and the working class who after a hectic day would prefer the ready made food than cooking at home. for example when i was in a private hostel for my intermediate as the mess facility was available we could concentrate on our studies without worrying about the cooking.some people may say that the outside food is not as nutritive or hygienic as prepared at home but now a days there a lot of hotels which are catering sumptuous and healthy food.
however on the other side of the coin the availability of the ready made food and various appliances which reduce the time for cooking have in a way made us lazy and excessively dependent on them. imagine a person who depends completely on the hotel for his food. the ready availability of food would make him lazy and he may never know how to cook the mouth watering dosa except eating it.
also when we go for outside food we have to comprimise to a certain extent on the taste and the varieties which we want to eat. the local restaurent may have a very large menu and the food may also be good but the hotels will prepare the food by taking the general plebian into account and may not provide customised food according to individual preferences.
lastly nothing surpasses the experience of cooking as it provides us with the satisfaction of making our own food . there is also a good chance of preparing our own recipe or discovering a new dish when we cook on our own.
in conclusion the availability of the easy food has both its positive and negative effects on the people. though we cannot generalize the effects we can observe that for some it has proved to be time saving while for others well it just made them lazy!!!
