Re: Independence from parents early vs staying with them for a longer time

August 4, 2009 by petra

No one can deny the importance of raising up kids under the supervision of their parents. As a mother myself, I actually love to take care of my kids all the time and I couldn’t imagine the idea that my children are away from me. The idea of the independence from parents is really controversial one. While there would certainly be a variety of viewpoints that support the independence from parents, surprisingly I oppose it very strongly. This is mainly based on my feeling that children needs to stay with their parents for many reasons.

First of all, increasing their experience. Being with parents will always helps the children to know more and keep learning from them. This learning process will protect the kids from doing faults and miserable mistakes that would happen if they were alone. For example, I live with my parents all the time before getting married. Therefore, they help me all the time to setup my goals and to plane well to my life. I am thankful to them because all the success in my life is actually because of them being there. Furthermore, I am planning to bring up my children in the same way, that would be only if they live with me.

In addition to the first reason, I think that taking care of parents especially when they are getting old is another reason. The parents who spent their life bringing up their children, sending them to schools to learn, and looking after them when they were sick, deserve care from their children when they are too old. For example, my parents live with me in the same house, and I check daily many things such as if they taking their medicine.

In conclusion, taking advices from parents to do the right things from the first time, and taking care of those people who were there when a person was born till he/she became a mature man/women, are the things that enhance the idea of staying with parents of course in my point of view. Putting aside some advantages of living alone, but I see any convincing reason to live away person’s parents.

Re: Do you agree that schools should make daily exercise a part of their curriculum? Explain why or why not.

Do you agree that schools should make daily exercise a part of their curriculum? Explain why or why not.

No one can deny the importance of the daily exercises for the human body. As a student myself, I actually remember that the school where I studied didn’t pay that attention to the daily exercise. The idea of having a daily training in the school is really a nice one. While there would certainly be a variety of viewpoints that don’t support training every day, personally I totally agree and go with it. This is based on many facts, but I will mention a couple of them.

First of all, teaching the students the concept of the healthy life. Daily exercise will enable the students to be familiar with this excellent habit, especially if it was mandatory in the school’s curriculum which will demonstrate the strategies that should be learned to keep the person’s body away from illness and obesity, so they will start eat a healthy food and practice more and more. For example, my brother was in a private school which was really take care of its students by giving them compulsory hour to practice, in this hour there is an enhanced daily sessions about the importance of those practices to let the students convinced by it, he has a healthy body and habits. However, my school didn’t care about the exercise’s issue, and that’s why I have excess pounds in my weight and eating too much sweets.

In addition to the first reason, I think that making professional athletes is another important issue. Exercising in a daily manner in a specific kind of sport will build the person’s skills from scratch in it. Then he/she become advanced in it, which will benefit not only him/her, but also the entire community. For example, my brother is one of top ten volleyball’s players in my country; this is after ten years of practicing daily in his school.

In conclusion, I think that creating a strong base in the person’s life and raising a qualified generation are the fruits of the daily exercises in the schools. Putting aside the tiring from doing it every day, personally I don’t see any convincing reason to not considering the daily training a part of the school’s curriculum.

If you could travel back in time to meet a famous person from history, what person would you like to meet? Use specific reasons and examples to support your choice.

No one can deny the effects of any famous character in the world whether it was it good or bad works, so that they became famous! As a student myself, I actually remember many famous people who I studied about in some of history courses. The idea of choosing a famous person to meet with is really controversial and elusive one. While there would certainly be a variety of people who is the person that I would like to meet, interestingly I wish to meet Ibn batota.

This choice based on the facts that Ibn Batota’s achievements in his tours around the world. Why Ibn batota?

First of all, his strong persistence. Ibn batoa is Arabic man who born before 700 years and raised in . His family was poor, and he was in love with traveling. Even though the bad circumstances and the lack of resources, he persist to travel the world riding his simple horse. Personally, I believe that it wasn’t easy tour in that time, but his strong will makes his dreams to become true.

In addition to the first reason, I think that his written famous book is another important thing. His book’s name is (Tohfat Elanthar) one of the most important historical books around the world; describes most of world cities before 700 hundred years ago, also it gives very important details about geographical features for those visited cities. Many of scientists still use this book and consider it as important reference.

In conclusion, the strong will deserves any one respect, especially when it faces many difficulties, but it won at the end. Moreover, the tangible achievements which found before a while and still people benefit from it till now, is something deserves the entire world’s respect. These are some reasons that let me choose this famous man.

Some people say that computers have made life easier and more convenient. Other people say that computers have made life more complex and stressful. What is your opinion? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

No one can deny the importance of computers in our life, whether it make things easy or complex. As a student myself, I actually use computer in a daily manner. The idea of thinking of computers as a machine which makes our life so complex is a controversial and elusive one. While there would certainly be a variety of viewpoints which support the idea of the stressful effects of computers, surprisingly I think that computers made every thing more easily. This is based on many facts, but I will mention a couple of them.

First of all, saving time and efforts. Computers help in accomplishing many difficult things in a short time such as calculating methods, engineering drawings etc. Comparing the time and efforts that the mentioned examples were taken to do them. Personally, all my assignments are directly connected to software programs in computer. I am wondering if these programs are not there how many weeks I need to accomplish a work I do in two hours using computer, Thank GOD.

In addition to the first reason, I think that making people’s communication easy is another important issue. People now can talk to each others wherever they were; computers serve a wonderful technology as the internet. Internet advantages can’t be counted, not only communications but also in its huge banks of information. I can’t live without internet, I live now in the states and I can talk to my parents who are in the daily.

In conclusion, making life easy is the purpose of existing computers. Moreover, using computers in the right way for what it is found for, either in doing things quickly or in communicating. Putting aside the small number of disadvantages of computers, personally I don’t see any convincing reason to consider computers make life complex and stressful.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Classmates are a more important influence than parents on child's success in school. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer

July 19, 2009 by petra

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Classmates are a more important influence than parents on child's success in school. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

No one can deny the importance of children success on school, and how much their parents would be happy with that achievement. As a student myself, I actually can tell the pleasure after passing any exam and getting a good mark. The idea of classifying the influence degree whether it is more from the parents or the classmates is really controversial and elusive one. While there would certainly be a variety of viewpoints which believe that the classmates have a more influence on the student, surprisingly I think that the parent are the most important influential part. This is based on real experiences which are supported by a number of factors but I will mention a couple of them.

First of all, the continuous following up process from the parent side. If the parents were aware of their children performance in the school, their kids would gain good marks. This process should be applied in a daily manner; the parent should follow up their child’s daily schedule and be sure that they do their homework well. Personally, I still remember how my mother was taking care of this issue till I reached to the high school, she was following my assignments and my preparation for all courses every day at that time therefore, and I got high marks. Now after being in the university she believes that I can depend on my self well.

In addition to the following up, I think that sharing child’s concern is another important issue. Sometimes many children don’t feel comfortable in their classes, maybe there is someone who bothers them or they suffer to understand a course because of their teacher difficult way in explanation. My brother had an issue like this when he was at the fifth grade, there were two of his classmates bothering him, at the end they beat him one day, after that he was frustrated and refuses to go to school, my mother talked to him, he told her about those bad colleges, and she solved the problem with the principal.

In conclusion, I think that sharing our children’s detailed issues either emotional or mental is the essential factor in their success in any stage; in school or in university and even in life. Putting aside the advantages of classmates competence in achieving success but for me all the convincing reasons are those regarding parent’s influence.

Some movies are serious, designed to make the audience think. Other movies are designed primarily to amuse and entertain. Which type of movie do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

No one can deny the importance of watching movies whether it is serious or comedy ones. As a student myself, I actually watch movies in the weekends, in home or sometimes in a cinema theatre. The idea of choosing the type of films is really elusive and not easy at the same time. While there would certainly be a variety of advantages of watching serious films, surprisingly I prefer to watch the comedies. Why? This is based on my feeling that I need to see it for many reasons but I will mention couple of them.

First of all, breaking up the daily routine. Most people nowadays work like machines, waking up in the morning going to their works and if they are students they also go to the university, much work and dozens of homework. Yet, most of their times were spent in tough serious things, so they need to break the ice badly, they simply need to laugh. Personally, I watch comedy movies every Saturday and having a lot of fun after a hectic week in the engineering department and getting rid of all stress I have.

In addition to the first reason, I think that thinking in a simple way and learning how to have sence of humor is another important issue. Watching films that are designed for amusement don’t only make the person laugh only, but also teach us to think in a simple way and to take thing as it is, no need to harden it. Moreover, it improve our personalities to be more funny. I learn a lot from just watching funny films, how to be simple, and how to make jokes at the right time. This actually gives me popularity and a special personality among my friends.

In conclusion, the huge variety of movies type gives people many of selections to have. For me personally, I find the comedy movies is the best among other types, because it change life’s routine. Furthermore, it make the person who watches It thinks in a different way and being more flexible. Putting aside the good lessons that the serious movie gives, But I don’t see any convincing reason to watch that type.

Some people prefer to get up early in the morning and start the day's work. Others prefer to get up later in the day and work until late at night. Which do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your choice.

No one can deny the importance of taking enough time for sleeping and rest, many doctors advise to sleep eight continuous hours daily at the minimum rate. As a student, wife and mother to be, I actually think that I need to a very accurate schedule to accomplish things I need to do it badly every day. The idea of getting up lately is very attractive to me, but it is really difficult. While there would certainly be a variety of viewpoints and advantages that support sleeping to a late hour, surprisingly I prefer to get up early in the morning. This is based on the results I have got after trying both ways. These results enhanced the following .

First of all, accomplishment of many different tasks. When a person gets up early every day, he/she could finish more works especially if he/she has a lot of commitments. For example, I am student, wife, and mother to be within three months, therefore I need to wake up at 8:00AM daily to arrange the house and clean it, then prepare the breakfast, after that making the lunch and put it into the refrigerator then going to the school at the end return to home and having my lunch, washing the dishes, doing the pregnancy practices etc. This is my daily schedule, let alone the crowded one  in the weekend or when I go to the clinic. I believe that if I don’t waking up early, then I couldn’t accomplish thing as the recent situation.

will some one score it to me ???neutral

In addition to the accomplishment, I think that waking up earlier is healthier than waking up lately. This is based on many medical researches. So the person could smell the morning’s fresh air. Personally, I and my husband waking up early and going out doing some sports in the purified air. This is benefits us especially for me as a pregnant.

In conclusion, getting up early helps the person to do as much works as he/she could, also being accurate and scheduled. Moreover, it helps to continue practicing and still healthy all the way. Putting aside the good things from waking up lately, But I don’t see any convincing reason to don’t wake up early.

Is it better to enjoy your money when you earn it or is it better to save your money for some time in the future? Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

July 15, 2009 by petra

Is it better to enjoy your money when you earn it or is it better to save your money for some time in the future? Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

No one can deny the importance of money whether it is used in joy or as savings. As a housewife myself, I actually think in a daily manner in the best way of spending my house’s budget, of course I share this important issue with my husband! The idea of spending money to enjoy is really elusive one. While there would certainly be a variety of viewpoints that support getting pleasure in a person’s money, surprisingly I prefer to save money. This is mainly based on the fact that saving money supports people especially in bad economy. Likewise, it helps in challenging the unknown surprises.

First of all, enhancing people to face bad economic conditions. Most people in the world have been suffered from the lately economic crises especially those who have a limited salary, others have lost their jobs. But if they saved some money from the years before the crises, then they can help them selves now. There is a say in my home country have been used a lot in a similar occasions, it says “Save your white penny to your black bay”. Personally, even though I don’t have a job and am a dependent on my husband’s limited salary, but we always save some money to spend them in those months that he don’t have a salary on them, his salary is only for ten months instead of twelve after the budget cuts.

In addition to the first reason, I think that saving money to face unwanted surprises is another important issue. Many people some times have circumstances not in their calculations such as an accident, car fixing, a new set of dishes instead of those were broken etc. So they need to face that situation, it will be easier if they have saving but it would be harder if they don’t. At the beginning of this year 2009 I and my husband noticed a strange sound came out from our car’s motor, when we went to the maintenance shop for inspection, the technician said it was a dangerous issue and needs to be fixed as soon as possible, it cost us around $800 at that time. I am wondering if we don’t have some saving then what we can do.

In conclusion, I believe that all of us should consider saving money matter seriously, facing any situation whether it comes from a bad market or from a suddenly thing, let alone high prices. Putting aside the advantages of using money for enjoyment such as going to restaurants, picnic, shopping etc. Therefore, I don’t find any convincing reason to not save money.

Neighbors are the people who live near us. In your opinion, what are the qualities of a good neighbor? Use specific details and examples in your answer.

No one can deny the importance of neighbors in our lives especially the ones who are near us. As a person myself, who is a neighbor and has a neighbors at the same time, I actually understand the benefits could be gained from the existence of a good neighbor. The idea of living in a bad neighborhood is really annoying. While there would certainly be a big number of families who are living in restless conditions, personally I could not digest to live but on a suitable place whose neighbors are people who considered having a qualities of a good neighbor. What are the qualities? Ok, I will talk about some of them. However, others may don’t agree with me, but it is based upon the person’s viewpoint.

First of all, quietness of neighbors especially those who are next door. When a person lives in a silence place with no noise around such as a high music, a loud television, noisy voices etc. This is a really blessing, which actually reflects how much that neighbor respects the people who are living around him/her and appreciates that those people were in their hectic works all day and back to their houses to have some rest. Personally, last year I suffered from a neighbor who was living in second floor and I was on the third one, he was raising the music all the time and dancing to the point that I was felt that there was an earthquake in the home; because every thing was shaking. At the end I decided to move to another apartment where I live now.

In addition to the quietness, I think that the neighbor’s cleanness is another important issue. Neighbor, who cares to have a clean house and environment, takes care of his/her garden and using the pesticides to detect the existence of unwanted insects, mice, rats etc, and all the animals that cause illness. Me and my neighbors complained once on a neighbor who collected his daily trash in his balcony, therefore a huge number of mosquitoes and flies were flying above that trash resulted in a not healthy place.

In conclusion, I think that any one should consider number of features in his/her neighbor such as silence; living in a calm place, let alone being in a healthy place. Of course, a not dangerous neighbor should be taken into consideration. It is really uncountable number of qualities and issues. At the end and under any circumstances, I don’t see any convincing reason let any one live in a uncomfortable conditions.

Re: Do you prefer learning by yourself to learning with a teacher?....please please write any comments...

July 13, 2009 by petra

Do you prefer learning by yourself to learning with a teacher?
No one can deny the importance of learning whether it is by me or with a teacher. As a student myself, I actually remember that all the learning process in my life was with teachers or under their supervision and it is still the same way till now. The idea of learning by me is not easy one. While there would certainly be a variety of advantages of learning alone, surprisingly I prefer to choose learning with a teacher. This is mainly based on my previous experiments which support two reasons.
First of all, saving time and efforts. When there is a teacher who explains and presents a course or information to students, then he/she saves their time instead of searching to understand that information whether in the library or in the internet and spending much more time. For example, when I was in my undergraduate I take a course its name is thermodynamics, unfortunately it was a self study course, I was spending on average two or three days to accomplish one page from the course’s book. Personally, I don’t encourage this strategy of self studying because that time I had a lot of things to do, let alone the other courses and my job.
In addition to saving time, I think that attending a lecture is so important. Why? Because the student could share his/her ideas with his/her colleges inside the lecture, also he/she can practice brainstorming, team work and discussion skills. All these practices could be grown and prosper by attending lectures. Out of experience I can tell how much benefits I got from attending my lectures, interestingly having very hot debates that open my mind to more knowledgments.
In conclusion, for me personally, any learning process needs to be a comprehensive and complete. Learning with teachers is one of the most important ingredients for that process, let alone saving the students time especially who are engaged with other commitments such as work, also bringing up their abilities to discuss and debate which will strengthen their characters by all means. Taking a long some of disadvantages of learning process with teachers, but I don’t see any convincing reason that supports studying alone strategy.

Re: TOEFL Independent Essay Topic 10: Reading and writing ability today and in the past

July 9, 2009 by petra

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

The ability to read and write is more important today than it was in the past.

Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

No one can deny the importance of reading and writing skills either in the past or future. As a student my self, I actually read and write in a daily manner. The idea of considering reading and writing more important today than the past is really controversial and elusive at the same time. While there would certainly be a variety of point views which support the notion that the ability to read and write was stronger in the past than Now, personally I consider it needed currently more than the past eras. This is mainly based on my feeling that the caring of research in different areas has already taken place from the twentieth century. Like wise, this important grows with international interactions which could be observed by accepting students in the West universities.

First of all, the growth of research in many areas enhances the importance of having a strong background. This background should be enriched by extensive readings and writings in that area. The ability to read and understand the writer ideas or hints either explicitly or implicitly will build the primary basement needed at the beginning. After the reading stage, the writing skill comes and focuses on what he/she concludes in order to write his/her own research. Personally, I faced many problems in my undergraduate thesis because my abilities in reading and understanding the research papers was not that good which at the end reflected on my essay writing so that I didn’t gain a good score and my advisor ask me to re-do the whole thing again.

In addition to the above mentioned reason, I think that the growth of accepting international student in the west universities such as the American ones increases the importance of reading and writing. This could be seen in one of the most important condition which is to pass the TOEFL exam. It is already known that this exam focus on such skills as reading, listening, speaking and writing. I still remember that my brother made that exam twice to pass, also he exert efforts to improve his ability in reading and writing to be able to study in the USA.

In conclusion, for me personally, I think that with the current changes and challenges in all over the world the ability to read and write became more important than before. This era has big revolutionary steps especially in different areas of research, let alone the international communications in trade, commerce, education etc. So I don’t see any convincing reason to consider reading and writing in the past is more important than now.

Re: TOEFL writing topic: "small or big universities?"

July 9, 2009 by petra

Some students prefer to attend a small university. Others prefer to attend a big university. Discuss the advantages of each. Then indicate which type of university you prefer? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.

No one can deny the importance of attending a university whether it is big or small. As a student my self, I actually remember the excitement when I got accepted in the university several years ago, it was really a great moment which will extend to five years. The idea of attending a small university or a big one is really elusive. While there would certainly be a variety of advantages of attending a small university, personally I prefer to join a big university which is my current situation right now. This is mainly based on my feeling and my vision that being in a big university gives a variety of options regarding the main major for any student. Likewise, this university accepts international students.

First of all, having a wide range of options as for the major is a very important thing. Where it opens to any person many doors to knock. Interestingly, he/she could choose his/her major among tens of different departments such as Engineering school, Pharmacy school, Business school etc. Personally, I used to be at the same situation one year ago, then I started investigation my desires and where is the most major that suits me, finally I chose to be in the Engineering school.

In addition to the huge variety, I think accepting international students is an essential issue. This means it is a world wide university which has its decent reputation among the other universities, then getting a good job in the market will be easily because of the fame of that university. I am an international student now who is proud to be in a big university.

In conclusion, for me personally, any person who is looking for a university to attend he/she needs to consider its variety in majors beside the diversity of students it has, which only found in a big university. These factors play an important role in building his/her distinguished CV, rather than being in a small limited university which limit a person choices. Yet I don’t see any convincing reason to be in a small university.

Re: Poll: Independent writing task: :It has recently been announced that a large shopping center may be built in your neighborhood. Do you support or oppose this plan?"

July 7, 2009 by petra

Will you please score this to me

It has recently been announced that a large shopping center may be built
in your neighborhood. Do you support or oppose this plan?"

No one can deny the importance of building a new large shopping center. As a resident my self, I actually find the idea of existing a new shopping center near my neighborhood is wonderful. While there would certainly be a variety of disadvantages of this idea, surprisingly I support it. This is mainly based on my feeling that comes out of experience in living in my small isolated town, where building a new shopping center will refresh the area and its economical resources. Likewise, this shopping center will broadcast the town to the surrounding towns.

First of all, building a new shopping center will prosper the town and refresh its resources. Interestingly, many of new food markets and restaurants will open nearby that center to satisfy the customer needs who are either inside or out side the shopping center, or people who live in that town. Personally, I consider my town as an isolated town; where I am forced to drive more than twenty miles every other day just to go to a food market or a restaurant. Moreover, drop the unemployment rate in my town since a new job market will give the opportunity to the town residents to have a work. For example, my friend jon found a job in his town after building a new factory, before that he was unemployed for more than five years.

In addition to the prosperity of the town, I think that broadcasting the town to other areas helps big time; when people from the beside villages and cities comes to work in that large shopping center. Therefore, they will live in the new town with their families and knowing more about the town, after that telling others about it, which will change its status from indefinite town to a known one.

I conclusion, for me personally, any town needs to have a large shopping center to motivate the existing

All of the social services needed, also to build a name with a decent reputation among other towns. Taking along the negativities of building that center in my neighborhood including noise, traffic, and pollution. But I don’t see any convincing reason to not build a large new shopping center.

July 1, 2009 by petra
